The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, on 4 February 2026, received the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria, His Excellency Muhannad Halmouri, during a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

The engagement formed part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to deepen Nigeria–Palestine relations and provided an opportunity to review consular, humanitarian, and regional matters of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the Palestinian Ambassador conveyed greetings from the Palestinian leadership and expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause. He highlighted the historic ties between the two nations, dating back to the era of President Yasser Arafat, and praised Nigeria’s consistent moral and diplomatic stance in international forums.

Humanitarian concerns in Gaza and the broader Palestinian territories were a central focus. Looking ahead, the Ambassador expressed interest in a potential visit to Nigeria by the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs. The proposed visit would include high-level meetings and possible engagements with Nigeria’s National Assembly, in line with diplomatic protocols.
