Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has dismissed Natangwe Ithete from his dual roles as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, the presidency announced in a statement on Sunday.

The statement said that, in the interest of maintaining continuity and effective coordination within the crucial industry and energy sectors, President Nandi-Ndaitwah will personally oversee the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy with immediate effect. However, it did not specify the reasons behind Ithete’s removal.

Appointed in March as part of Nandi-Ndaitwah’s new administration, Ithete will continue to serve as a member of parliament, according to the presidency.

Namibia, one of Africa’s most promising resource-rich nations, is positioning itself as a major player in the global energy market. The country aims to begin its first crude oil production by 2030, following significant discoveries in recent years. Beyond oil, Namibia remains a leading producer of uranium and diamonds, with growing investments in green hydrogen and renewable energy projects.

The president’s move signals a firm grip on the country’s industrial and energy agenda, as Namibia seeks to harness its natural resources to drive sustainable economic growth and energy independence.
