The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has expressed deep concern over the situation of Nigerian workers stranded in the Bambari region of the Central African Republic (CAR), following widespread circulation of a distressing video on social media. The video, which has drawn significant attention, shows several Nigerian nationals abandoned by their employers and facilitators in Bambari, a remote area approximately 850 kilometers from the country’s capital, Bangui.

In response, the Nigerian Embassy in Bangui has swiftly mobilized efforts to address the crisis. Officials from the Mission have successfully established contact with the affected individuals and are working closely with relevant CAR authorities to guarantee their safety, provide immediate assistance, and facilitate their safe return home. As part of the evacuation process, a vehicle has been dispatched to transport the stranded Nigerians to Bangui, where they are expected to arrive on Saturday, July 26, 2025, under military escort for added security.

In a positive development, the passports of the stranded nationals have been retrieved, and discussions are ongoing with the involved company to ensure that adequate accommodation and welfare support are provided during their temporary stay in Bangui. The repatriation of the group to Nigeria is being prioritized and coordinated at the highest diplomatic levels.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights, welfare, and dignity of Nigerian citizens globally. It also used the opportunity to issue a strong advisory to Nigerians seeking employment abroad, urging them to thoroughly verify the legitimacy of employers and ensure all documentation is properly secured before traveling.

Furthermore, Nigerians are encouraged to register their presence and that of their employees, in the case of companies with the nearest Nigerian embassy or consulate in any foreign country. This measure is essential to facilitate consular support and prevent complications during emergencies.

As the government intensifies efforts to bring the affected individuals home, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of due diligence when pursuing overseas opportunities and the crucial role of Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in protecting citizens abroad.
