Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, following his passing after a prolonged illness in a London hospital. The burial took place at his family residence after a solemn public prayer ceremony attended by top political leaders, traditional rulers, and dignitaries from across Nigeria.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, was a major figure in the country’s political history. His leadership journey began as a military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985 before returning to power through the ballot three decades later.

The Daura community, which had seen an influx of mourners since the announcement of his death, was the site of both emotional tributes and formal religious rites. His private interment at his family compound followed Islamic burial traditions.

Known for his anti-corruption stance, military background, and strong influence on Nigerian politics, Buhari’s death marks the end of an era for a leader who shaped both military and civilian governance in Africa’s most populous nation.

His legacy remains a topic of national and global reflection, as leaders, citizens, and international observers pay tribute to his decades-long impact on governance, security, and public policy in Nigeria.
